the beginning
You were born knowing how to receive.
As an infant, it was simply what was—warmth, milk, sound, touch. There was only presence, completely open. Life lived you and moved through you without resistance.
Then the mind came online and began to label experience. Good and bad. Safe and unsafe. These thoughts created a sense of a separate self that believes it needs protection. And that misunderstanding fuels the illusion that your natural openness—your ability to receive—has closed.
But that’s not accurate. The open, connected space of presence has simply been obscured by beliefs, stories, and the noise of the mind doing its best to feel safe.
the strategies
The mind, trying to take care of the separate self, does what minds do: it builds strategies. Walls that feel like wisdom. Habits that feel like identity. The impersonal patterns look something like:
Work Harder — if I can just outrun the uncertainty, stay ahead of the pain, produce enough, achieve enough, I'll be safe. The override. The push. The relentless doing.
Go Quiet — if I don't reach too far, don't want too much, don't make myself too visible, I won't get hurt. The waiting and withdrawal. The life lived carefully inside a smaller and smaller circle.
Stay Busy — if there's always something to fix, manage, plan, worry about, I never have to feel what's underneath.
Be Perfect — if I can just get it right enough, be good enough, spiritual enough, healed enough, the pain won't find me.
Different strategies. Same source.
The mind doing its best to protect an identity it believes is real.
And for a long time—it works. Until it doesn't.
the high achiever
If you have the conditioning of high achieving, you've likely built your life through the first pattern: push harder. Override the feeling. Make it happen.
And it worked. Incredible things get accomplished through sheer force of will.
But it comes at a cost.
Fueling on intensity and adrenaline can only last so long. At some point, Life kicks in—through burnout, exhaustion, or loss—and the override pattern stops working. The response is usually to push even harder, trying to force the old way back to life. Or to go quiet, feeling like a failure.
Or—to surrender. And discover an entirely different way.
The old pattern isn't failure. It's an invitation.
the avoider
This same contraction happens in the quieter version—the avoider. This is where feelings are believed and action doesn't follow. There is distraction, waiting until things seem just right.
In both cases, the mind is running the show. And the mind, built on scarcity and fear, is not designed to lead a full life.
Maybe it started small. You sang at the school talent show. The audience laughed—not with you. Somewhere inside, a quiet decision formed: Don't be visible. It isn't safe.
A friend said something that cut deep. A pulling away. Then another hurt, another wall. Eventually a move to a new city, looking for a fresh start—only to find the same ache waiting in the new zip code.
This is how conditioning builds. Gradually. And life gets smaller.
life loves me when:
The day goes according to plan
Money comes in unexpectedly
I step on the scale and like the number
I sleep well and wake up energized
My partner is in a great mood
My kids eat dinner without complaints
A project comes together effortlessly
Travel goes smoothly
I feel seen and appreciated—compliments come at every turn
life doesn’t love me when:
I wake up anxious for no reason
An unexpected expense wipes out savings
The scale says something I don't want to see
There is a lice outbreak at the kids’ school
My partner is distant or short with me
A client gets upset with me
Unexpected delays extend a project by weeks
The dog’s digestive issues kept me up all night before my big presentation
I feel invisible and behind
The mind creates these lists—labeling this good, that bad, this safe, that threatening. And then spends a lifetime arranging for more of the first and less of the second.
We call it manifesting, optimizing, becoming our best selves. And if we can just get it right—feel good enough, heal enough, grow enough—surely we'll finally be okay.
But here’s what the mind can’t grasp—the truth of who you are is the space that holds both lists. Neither one touches it.
if the arranging strategy actually worked, no one would be suffering. And, yet, suffering continues—because the peace of our true nature goes unrecognized.
a different possibility
Consider this: the body is breathing right now without any input. The digestive system, immune system, cardiovascular system—all communicating with each other, without a single conscious effort.
That is the intelligence life is made of. That is what you are.
And yet, because there is identification with the mind, its thoughts are believed—even though thought itself arises involuntarily, the same way the body breathes. It isn't actually controlled. It just feels that way.
The mind's noise is built on scarcity. But beneath that noise is the open heart—full of wisdom, always available. As that presence is recognized, everything changes.
Not because life has become easier, but because you have stopped fighting it.
That is true receiving.
Receiving the moment exactly as it is. Even when it's painful. Even when it appears to break the heart. Even the rage or grief that's been kept at arm's length for years.
Those feelings aren't obstacles to freedom—they are the pathway home to your true nature.
This is also why most manifestation practices fall short. Fix your thoughts. Shift your beliefs. Manage your energy. Stay positive. These are well-intentioned instructions—but management is still a form of resistance. Still a rejection of what is.
The insights that actually clear the distorted thinking don't come from effort. They arise on their own, in the softening. In the surrender. When the guard relaxes.
The mind can only work with what it already knows. But when there is alignment with true nature—when the fresh insights life is constantly offering are received—creation happens from somewhere else entirely. From the unknown. From the intelligence that breathes the body, turns the seasons, and knows exactly what wants to emerge next.
What becomes possible from that place is beyond anything the personal self could plan or manufacture. This is the real promise of receiving—not just less suffering, but a life that feels fully alive.

How It Works
This is not a class about manifesting. It's not about affirmations, vision boards, or training your mind to think positively. This weekend, we go somewhere deeper.
The Gift of the Open Heart: A Weekend of Receiving is an immersive in-person weekend experience for those who are ready to stop trying to control experience and start living it.
We'll work with the central question: What would it feel like to receive life—all of it—with an open heart?
This is experiential work. You won't just hear ideas; you'll feel them shift something in you:
Teaching and inquiry: exploring the mind's relationship with control
Breathwork and somatic practices: accessing who you are beneath the noise
Interactive group experiences: this opening happens in relationship
Space for integration: time to let what's arising actually land
And then we keep going. Three weekly virtual sessions in September give you space to integrate what opened—with your community, and with me. This isn't just a weekend event. It's a beginning.

Comfortable clothing you can move in. We'll be doing breathwork and somatic practices, so layers are helpful. A detailed preparation email will follow registration.

Snacks and refreshments are provided throughout each day. Lunch is on your own—there's a 75–90 minute break around 12:30pm. There are restaurants within a short drive, and you're welcome to bring something or have meals delivered and eat at the retreat center. A fridge, microwave, and stove are available.

Amber Krzys is a coach and spiritual guide who helps people human well—by recognizing the nature of mind, heart, and body and living from their innate wholeness rather than fear, striving, or self-improvement. Her work supports a return to presence, trust, and inner sufficiency, where clarity, peace, and meaningful change naturally arise.
She is the founder of Fierce Loving, Inc. and the creator of The School for Humaning Well, a six-month program devoted to integrating spiritual insight into real, lived experience. For nearly two decades, Amber has supported individuals, leaders, creatives, and coaches in unhooking from survival-based patterns, softening urgency, and learning to live and lead from truth rather than pressure.
