When the Body Speaks…

In my last newsletter, I shared about the innocence of our habit of trying to change or get rid of experiences we don't like—and how early conditioning trained us to rely on the mind when our system feels unsafe.

I heard from a few people who said it struck a chord. That it offered a new way of seeing and relating to discomfort—with greater compassion and curiosity.

If you haven't read Why We Turn Away, you can do so here.

Today I'm sharing Part Two—an invitation to take that idea and ground it in real life.

Because these patterns don't live in theory—they show up in bodies. In symptoms. In moments of pressure, bracing, and self-abandonment we often don't even realize we're in.

I recently recorded a short masterclass where I explore how we learn to disconnect from ourselves, how the mind steps in when the nervous system is overwhelmed, and how the very experiences we're trying to get rid of can actually be invitations back to wholeness.

Rather than summarize it here, I want to offer a few reflections that emerged:

  • What if some of the experiences we're trying hardest to eliminate are actually feedback from a system that's trying to protect us?

  • What if the mind rushing in to analyze, plan, or control is a sign that the nervous system doesn't yet feel safe—and not something that needs to be fixed?

  • What if “healing” isn't about getting rid of certain sensations or emotions, but about expanding our capacity to stay present with them?

  • What if pain—physical, emotional, or mental—is less an obstacle to avoid and more a portal back to parts of ourselves we learned to disconnect from in order to survive?

In the masterclass, I walk through these ideas using lived examples from my own life (including my long relationship with chronic migraines), along with a simple visual to show how the body, nervous system, and mind interact—especially in moments of overwhelm or pressure.
