Low Moments Are a Sign of Health

When your body gets sick, it lets you know.
A sore throat. A stuffy nose. Body aches.

Those symptoms aren't the sickness—they're the healing response.
Your body's way of saying: Hey, I'm working to bring you back into balance. Something needs your care.

This beautiful analogy was first shared with me by my coach—and it's one I've returned to again and again.

Because it doesn't just apply to physical illness.
It applies to our emotions, too.

What if the moments when your heart feels heavy…
Or your mind is spinning…
Or you're just off, and can't quite explain why…

What if those feelings were also a signal from your system?
Not a problem. Not something to push through or solve.
But a sign of health?

I know—it's not how we're usually taught to relate to our emotions.
But stay with me.

We expect our bodies to get sick from time to time. We may not like it, but we've come to accept that illness is part of being alive. Culturally, there's more room to embrace those moments—we know the body will get sick and heal, again and again.

But when it comes to our emotions, we've been taught something very different.

We believe it's better to feel good. So we make that the goal.
And when we don't feel good, we scramble.

We try to get back to “better” as fast as possible—often through coping strategies like overeating, over-functioning, numbing, and/or distracting.

We're less accustomed to feeling bad.
We're less flexible emotionally.

But here's the truth:
Our emotions will rise and fall throughout the day more than our bodies get sick in a lifetime.

Because emotions are a reflection of our state of mind.
And the mind? It thinks involuntarily—the same way the body breathes involuntarily.

You don't control your thoughts.
You might steer them from time to time, but mostly… they just come.

So if your emotions are a reflection of the thoughts you're most identified with…
And you don't control those thoughts…
And your system is already designed to regulate, heal, and return to balance

That means your thoughts will inevitably change—making your emotions change, too.

Take that in.

Now consider:
What if you didn't resist the unpleasant experience?
What if you stopped trying to solve the thinking or judge the feeling—and instead allowed the moment to move through you?

Here's the part that can be tricky:

Your conditioned mind won't like this approach.

It will tell you:
   “You're falling behind.”
“You don't have time for this.”
“You're being dramatic, lazy, or _____. Get it together.”

It will offer every reason in the world to override what you're feeling—because when you slow down to let yourself be where you are, you start to see through the programming.

You remember who you are.
You drop into a deeper intelligence.
And that's the last thing the ego wants.

But when you don't override the signal—when you allow the discomfort to take up space—it often shifts on its own.

Not because you pushed it.
But because it was never meant to stay forever.

And even if it doesn't shift immediately, that's okay too.
The goal isn't to move through it quickly.
The goal is to experience—to listen and allow.

To remember that you don't have to be “on” all the time.
That feeling low doesn't mean you're broken.
That having a rough day doesn't mean you've failed at being conscious or kind or wise.

It just means…
You're human.

And when you meet yourself with curiosity instead of urgency…
When you allow the feeling rather than fear it…
You make room for your Wisdom to rise.

Maybe it will guide you to:

  • close the laptop

  • take a walk

  • nap

  • call a friend

  • clean the kitchen

  • do something that feels supportive and aligned right now

The wisdom of your body guides you to rest when you're sick. The wisdom of your heart does the same when you're emotionally out of balance. You just have to pay attention to receive its message.

This is how we build emotional flexibility.
This is how we stop treating discomfort like a problem—and start honoring it as a sign of health.

Because you will come back to center.
You always do.

There is an Intelligence of Life running through you.
And it will always point you home.

With loving,
Amber
